LEVY CASTANEDA

My intent is to bring back abstract expressionism but in a new light with the influence of digital technology. I seek to explore spontaneous movement light, form, and color to bring identity to each work without relying on symbolism, too common in much of current art work. This process experimental, intuitive and rational, following the spirit of the movement.

The gallery presents several series. Each title stands for the media in which the work originated; SO (camera), PD (hand painting), TM (cell phone), SE (digital painting), R (architectural design program). All works undergo a development process that can reach out to any of the other techniques without no time limit or fixed method. Once printed the work is completed manually, as I see fit. Final works vary from 3.5 by 5.5 to 13 by 19 inches (small format on paper) to 24 by 36 to 54 by 72 inches (large format on canvas).

BIO

Born 1956 in Cartagena, Colombia. Lived eight years in Houston, Texas during childhood years. Completed basic studies in Colombia

and university studies in Bogota, Colombia (one year Fine Arts and

five years Architecture) from 1975 to 1982, exhibiting artwork collectively and individually at this time in Bogota, Medellin, and

Cartagena. Worked in Colombia as an Architect thereafter until 1998 and moved with his family to the U.S., working as an Architect for 

important firms such as Arquitectonica, HOK, Harper Partners,

Fullerton-Diaz, and Zyscovich Architects. Since 2011 re-initiated 

intense exploration in artistic efforts through the lens of adquired  skills in digital technology. Currently lives and works in Architecture

and Art in Miami, Florida.
